Basal Body Temperature Graph

iKonceive uses information you enter about days in your cycle to compile two different graphical views to assist you in understanding different aspects of your fertility during your cycle.

One of these graphical views is the Basal Body Temperature graph.

The iKonceive Basal Body Temperature graph is aimed at understanding changes in your Basal Body Temperature, but also displays the following:

  1. The days on which you have Sexual Intercourse ; and
  2. The days you experience Menstrual Bleeding (including Mid-cycle spotting)

iKonceive will construct your Basal Body Temperature graph as you add days to your cycle.

Below is an image of a Basal Body Temperature Graph for a 28 day cycle where sexual intercourse and menstruation has been recorded.

Basal Body Temperature Graph for a single cycle

Figure 1. A Basal Body Temperature Graph for a single cycle

Notice the following in terms of menstruation:

  • Menstruation occurs on days 1 to 5 (shown by small diamonds below the temperature line)
  • The degree of menstruation goes from heavy to medium to low (shown by a decline in the position of the diamonds)
  • Spotting occurring on day 18 (sometimes spotting occurs around the time of ovulation)

Notice the following in terms of temperature:

  • A gradual decline in temperature before day 14
  • A sudden decline in temperature between day 14 and 18
  • A rapid ride in temperature on day 19

Note that the rapid decline in body temperature prior to a steep rise in temperature back to a normal level is considered an indicator of ovulation.

Someone trying to get pregnant would increase (or be sure to have) sexual intercourse around this time to maximize their chances of conception. Notice that in this graph, sexual intercourse is also represented at small rings on days 15 to 20.

iKonceive can also display information relating to multiple cycles at once in the Basal Body Temperature graph view. The purpose of this is so that you can compare information across cycles to identify trends that may be useful in encouraging or avoiding pregnancy.

The image below shows an example of three cycles displayed at once.
